Toward the Mission:
To provide the necessary management tools and processes for all sizes of businesses so that long term viability and management succession occurs in a disciplined and planned process.
Unrelated to technology or data synchronization, Epic’s Management Group Business Unit has been involved in helping companies understand and implement principles and concepts of management techniques which the most successful companies in the world implement on a daily basis.
Epic’s founder started his management consulting firm much before he recognized the need for technology, and both business units have flourished under his leadership. Greg Weismantel was a Senior Vice President and management consultant for Louis Allen Associates, Palo Alto, CA, specializing in management processes and strategic planning, and brought this experience and know-how to his own firm, the Epic Management Group. He also participated in multiple restructuring assignments with Martin Marietta, Commonwealth Edison, and other companies so that maximum efficiencies occur ongoing.
Epic’s management process begins with the six functions of management and is the basis for every manager to know and understand how the roadmap of management works in any instance. We call this the Management DNA.

Management DNA is not a nucleic acid that contains genetic instructions for the development of managers, but it is the logical roadmap which includes the Axioms, Concepts, and Activities that allow an individual to master the Functions of Management, and become proficient in the Process of Management in an organization.
During the development of a manager, Management DNA is usually replicated and transmitted to younger managers from an experienced practitioner who has previously mastered the six functions of management and their activities. These six functions include Strategy, Planning, Organizing, Leading or Directing, Teamwork, and Control.
Strategy includes activities of Vision that lead to Driving Forces of the Organization which are developed through Product-Market Analysis and Competitive Analysis, emanating in a Mission.
Planning has activities in Strategic, Operational, and Project Management which allow the Mission Statement to yield Objective Setting for drilling ongoing and time denoted plans down to lower levels.
Organizing is where Responsibility and Accountability lead to the Functional Grouping and Restructuring for maximum proficiency, and where Delegation occurs with proper Span of Control. It includes the process of Interviewing, Selecting People, and Hiring, and it also helps the manager with a “Litmus Test in Calculating Employee Worth.”
Directing or Leading includes activities of Decision Making and Problem Solving, with emphasis on Communication, Innovation, Training and Development.
Teamwork is where Line & Staff Relationships are nurtured, with Empowerment and Team Building leading to Internal and External Coordination between and among units, allowing for Conflict Resolution.
Control allows the Manager to understand Axioms and apply Metrics so that Objective Evaluation and Subjective Appraisal can Improve Work Performance and Results Achieved.
Management DNA can never be changed, but is always replicated in various styles of implementation by a Manager. It is not inherited, but learned, so anyone can become the best Manager merely by mastering the “blocking and tackling” of management and applying these concepts to their daily managerial life.
When a manager masters the interaction of the activities of each Function of Management, the manager becomes the most effective person in the organization.
